Pink Shirt Day

Today was pink shirt day.  There was a school assembly put on by the Do Good Committee ( a group of grade 5-7s).  The primary and intermediate choirs sang, we watched and powerful video about passing on kindness and read the book, Fill Your Bucket.

In the afternoon the students generated their own ideas about what kindness means to them and how to show kindness.  See below some of their wonderfully big ideas.

Kindness is filling someone's bucket.

Outdoor Learning

Today we asked the children to find their very own 'sit spot' in our forest area where they could sit in silence and be present in their surroundings.  They were given a journal style book and introduced to  5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 .
To bring yourself to the present:
                                     5 things you see
4 things you hear
3 things you touch
2 things you smell
1 thing that’s happening right now

The children sat their spot for 5 minutes in silence.  It was quite spectacular to see them all so engaged in their surroundings.

100th Day of School

Today was the 100th day of school.  The children participated in many activities. They shared and then counted their collections by 10s and 5s, took 100 steps to see how far we got, did exercises for 100 seconds, and played race to 100 game. Here we are looking 100 years old.  I think I didn't age as much because I'm already getting close to 100!  As Ty said, "You don't look so bad."
