Pink Shirt Day

Today was Pink Shirt Day.  The focus in our classroom was kindness.  We started the day with gym.  I randomly pulled names out of a basket.  Partners then went into the equipment room to choose  equipment for a game.  All the children happily went with their partners and had a lot of fun!
After recess we made and ate the friendship fruit salad.  I read a story called So Close and we discussed the big idea ( one word, 'hello', can make a big difference).   After lunch we all went to the gym for an assembly.  Some of the older students read a story and presented a play.

This week we had a visit form the aboriginal education team.  In support our science unit on materials and force and motion, the classes look at the importance of the cedar tree to some first nations groups. The children learned how to the bark is remove from the trees, its properties and its many uses.

Gymnastics

The students thoroughly enjoyed the school gymnastics program.  It was wonderful to see their balance and strength skills improve.
