Light

Today the children investigated light and what happens when light hits an object in its path.  They were given a tray of different objects and asked to sort them and then were given a flashlight and asked to sort using a light source.  Very exciting stuff!  In the end the children were able to differentiate between objects that were transparent, translucent and opaque.

Bowling Fun!

On Tuesday afternoon we went bowling.  After lacing up a lot of shoes the children hit the lanes and bowled their hearts out.  At the mid point the lights went out, the mirrorball came down and the music was turned up.  The children danced away to classics from Earth Wind a Fire, Diana Summers and the Bee Gees and especially loved the YMCA.

Shadow Creatures

Today for outdoor learning, we looked at how shadows are formed.  The children were introduced to the difference between opaque and transparent objects.  They then made animals with snow, twigs and branches and looked for the shadows that were created.  The final activity was a fun game of shadow tag.

Loose Parts

In math today I introduced doubles facts and after some discussion asked the question:
"How can you use these loose part to show doubles facts?"
All of the children demonstrated an understanding of the concept and were able to represent their thinking in a variety of ways.

Tennis

We started tennis with Marcus today.  Our tennis days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for the next three weeks.  Today they children learned how to hold a racket and worked on balance and eye/hand coordination.  The last activity was throwing the balls over the net, a beginning serving skill.  Fun was had by all!
