Fun Day

Today was Fun Day and fun was had by all!  The children were divided up in to colour teams.  In the morning we all got together with our colour groups and learned our cheer.  We then paraded through  the school, out to Loutet Park and then back to the school field.  Each team presented their cheer. I believe team Green won for loudness and team Red got best cheer.

The afternoon ended with a tug of war between the two grade seven classes and one between the grade seven students and the teachers. The teachers won!

Outdoor Learning

On Tuesday we headed out in the rain puddle jumping our way to the forest.  On the way there we were fortunate enough to come across the bee keepers looking after the hives at Loutet Park.

After learning a little bit about bees we continued on to our forest area and the children had
exploration  time where they were all busy on 'projects'.  One group found a way to move a large piece of plywood by working together.  It is amazing to see problem solving and collaboration at play.

We finished off our out door time by working with a partner to make a mud pie in the pouring rain.

The student becomes the teacher...

The class has begun a study of community helpers.  Instead of me doing all of the teaching, the children have taken on the role of teaching each other.  They have been working in small groups collecting information from books and the internet about their chosen community helper.  Today they began the process of organizing and recording their information so they can present it to the class.  The students are using an app called Explain Everything where they can print, type, draw, use photos and record their facts.

Money, money, money

The children brought in their $1.oo they earned this weekend and were ready to go shopping.  Their first task was to identify the coins and count them money.

The children then came to the store and selected items that they wanted to buy.   They were responsible for counting their own money, identifying the cost and determining if they had enough.
