Science: Light and sound.

The children started the day with the following provocation:
How might stories be told with light?
The classroom lights were turned off and the curtains closed.  There were fairy light on their tables and they are each given a glow stick.  Some also had a flashlight.  They then used their lights to make up stories.  Some used shadows, others made their lights move quickly or slowly to represent movement.

Story Telling

Our writing focus today was on story telling.  Last Thursday the children used a self drying modelling clay to create a  forest animal.  Today, with their table groups, they made up stories about their animals.  They first fold them orally and then wrote them down.  They were completely engaged in the activity and were enthusiastic about sharing their stories with others.

Story Sharing

This afternoon the grade 12 writing class form Sutherland came to share the children's books that they wrote.  In the Fall, they had come for a visit and interviewed a child in the class.  They then took that information and incorporated it into a children's book.  The books were amazing and the children loved hearing the stories.
