Chick Shapes

Today we took advantage of the nice weather and went outside for a math/science cross curricular activity.  After looking at body parts of different birds, and identifying those that belong to a chicken, the students discussed the the purpose of some of the features of a chicken ( toes with claws instead of web feet, wattles and combs etc).  We then went outside and the children's task was to draw a chicken using identifiable shapes (circle, square, oval, rectangle, triangle).  They needed to be as accurate as possible, including the body parts we had talked about.  (Colour was optional)
