"Big Math Ideas"
We can see how many without counting.
Mathematicians use strategies when they estimate.
For outdoor learning we put on our rain gear and headed out with clipboards to take a tally of monsters, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts and bats. Of course the skies opened up and the children quickly learned that paper does not do well when mixed with water.
So, the next day the students tallied up, counted by fives and recorded the halloween creatures found on Mr. Hollands haunted houses inside the school.
Today the students went on a number safari. They were to locate the animal plates, estimate, count and record the number of objects they found.
Reminders for next week:
The students are to bring their halloween costume to put on after lunch. There will be a parade throughout the school. We will end up in the gym where the whole school will do the Monster Mash. Parents are welcome to see the parade and join in on the dancing. Also, the Do Good committee is collecting cans of food for the the food bank. They are hoping every child can bring in one can of food.
Next weeks letter is Nn. Can the Kindergarten children please bring in something that begins with Nn for sharing.
The students are being dismissed at 2:00 on Tuesday and Thursday for parent/teacher interviews. I hope you were able to find a time that works. If not please let me know.
