Home reading

Today the children took home a home reading book for their weekend home work.

These book are levelled and increase in difficulty as the numbers go up.  Please help your child read their book choice, encourage them to track their finger along the bottom of the words as they "read".  Many of these books follow a pattern sentence.  It's okay if they seem to have memorized it,  just continue to have them track.  If they are not sure what a word is, see if the pictures give a clue or you read on in the sentence and ask your child what word word would make sense.
Have fun reading!

Terry Fox Run

Today was the Terry Fox run.  We all headed up to Loutet Park in the afternoon.  There was a guest speaker from Cops for Cancer, Angela McKay ran the warm up and then the children very excitedly headed out for their run.  They were thrilled to participate in the event.

Number Hunt

Today we started an investigation into numbers.  As an introduction we all went on a number hunt around the school recording numbers as we found them.  Back in the class the children shared what they had found.

Goodbye Summer

Today we said goodbye to summer.  I read a story and then the students brainstormed all the things that they could no longer eat, wear, see and do as the seasons are changing.  They wrote a goodbye page, did a favourite ice-cream survey and graph, and had a picnic lunch on their beach towels.  In the afternoon we went outside and played with beachballs and frisbees and had a watermelon treat to eat.

No surprise that bubblegum was the most popular in the class.
